First and foremost, when I think of metal classics, I can think of a handful of bands. But Priest, Maiden, and Sabbath are the epitome of metal. These guys gave metal its look. Yeah yeah, its still funny that years later we find out Rob bats for another team, but in reality, who gives a shit?

Greenmaster has done an excellent job at looking at the high points of this band.

I have to admit, I never really followed much Priest, other that hearing my brother play Sad Wings, Stained Class etc. Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders were the only Priest I would really listen too in my youth. In fact, to this day, when I hear or read about Priest, these are the albums I think of. In fact, I still feel they were some of the last best and true efforts Priest has ever created.
Here it goes: Anything after that I disliked……don’t shoot me.

Turbo and Ram it Down felt like half assed attempts to get a cut of the popular galm market. Neither album was heavy, or remarkable. Here comes Painkiller. Another 360. Lets look at the popular market in 1990, we have Thrash just a booming and the Death scene is now gaining speed. Coincidence? Okay, years later I can now appreciate this album even though I wouldn’t give its day in the sun then. It’s a good album, and really, they should have called it quits at this point and moved on.

When Halford left. I thought FINALLY. But you think either side would stop? Oh no. Priest picked up Ripper and released more unremarkable works, I heard so much ranting about how awesome Juggulator was from drooling fans. So I bought it. I played it once. And it hasn’t been put back into a player since. Halford showed some promise with Fight, but that too was a flop. At this point, Preist has been dead to me since mid 80’s. I have all but stopped buying or really paying any attention to what happens over in the Priest camp. Funny enough, Greenmaster sent me a link to an MP3 of Nostradomous. If I recall, my words in response were along the lines of “What the hell is this shit, it sounds like a Blind Guardian cover, but done very poorly”. If I also recall, GM, did you not paste my response on the official forum and was banned permanently for it? Not trying to take away from the awesomeness that Priest was. It just feels like over the past 20 plus years, they have been trying to cash in on the popular market. Today, they are just coasting on the coattails of the Priest name of 1984 and back.
