New Gojira and a snippet of new Enslaved

Gojira

It is hard enough to judge any album by the lead single, and that is surely doubly true of Gojira, such is the inherent range and sonic variety of their recorded output. That said, the single bodes well. The production is perfect, the guitars glittering and crushing in equal measure, Mario punching through with balance and precision. There’s a cracking groove to this track, juxtaposed by the quieter moments, a brooding malevolence throughout. The track develops as it progresses, drawing the listener, rewarding them with trademark guitar squeals and swing, capped by THAT final tight-as-fuck double bass section.

Bring on the album!

Enslaved

I recommend you read the article as well – its well written and rather interesting. Enslaved on Nuclear Blast! Another very quickly produced album as well, compared to other bands. Actually, maybe that is a bit of a red herring – 4 albums since 2004 (and the Sleeping Gods EP to make 5, Thorn EP to make 6), but it certainly feels as if they’re coming in rapid succession.

What can I say of the minute or so the band treated the journalist to? A delicious slice of standard prog-era Enslaved – superb vocal balance, time changes, atmosphere and ethos, and damn well produced yet again. They’ve hit a rich seam with this new style of theirs, and long may it continue.

Albums out 26th July and October(ish) respectively.
